From the Museum Director - New photos of the E-113 engine has been added to the museum's online archives. The E-113 engine is a two cylinder aircraft engine of 36 HP to 40 HP built from 1931 to 1939. It was used on the Aeronca model C-3 and K airplanes. It weighted about 120 LBS. The earlier E-107 version was used Aeronca's first airplane, the C-2, in 1929.

The prototype engine was designed for Aeronca by Harold Moorehouse and later refined by Ray Poole and Robert Galloway for production. Aeronca was forced to design and build their own engines because in the 1920s there were no small, light, reliable and affordable aircraft engines available.

This engine, when combined with the lightweight C-2 air frame, launched the light aeroplane industry in 1929. Aeronca lead this new market of small airplanes and engines for a few years until Continental and Lycoming engines entered the market and used on Taylorcraft and Piper aircraft. By 1938 the market outgrew the E-113 engines. So Aeronca also begin building airplanes with the flat-fours from Continental and Lycoming.
